Emerging from Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, BUTT3R is an artist whose musical path has been shaped by a diverse range of influences and personal challenges. Growing up in a divorced household, he split his time between his parents, constantly on the move. Music became a grounding force in his life, especially the rock and metal songs he heard on Lazer 103.3 during car rides with his mom.
From Early Influences to High School Days
As a child, BUTT3R developed a deep love for rock bands like Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. These artists shaped his early musical taste, but as he grew older, his passion for music evolved. Hip-hop, particularly underground artists like XXXTENTACION, captured his attention, expanding his musical horizons. Now, his taste spans multiple genres, and he’s constantly searching for new sounds to incorporate into his work.
Growing up in Melcher-Dallas, a small town where everyone knew each other, BUTT3R was popular among his peers in high school. Despite this, he began to distance himself over time, choosing to focus on his future and figure out what he wanted from life. Video games were a big part of his downtime — playing titles like Call of Duty and Fortnite was a regular routine after school. But his real passion lay in music, and it became clear to him that it was more than just a hobby.
Starting His Music Career and Facing Setbacks
Like many others, BUTT3R’s first experiments with music were on BandLab, but he quickly transitioned to FL Studio. Though the software seemed intimidating at first, he was determined to learn every aspect of the craft, from writing and recording to producing his own tracks. His debut single, “Laughing Gas,” was released through DistroKid in June 2022. Though it wasn’t perfect, the experience fueled his drive to keep pushing forward, creating and releasing new music.
In 2023, BUTT3R performed live for the first time at Your Private Bar, a moment that cemented his commitment to pursuing music full-time. However, that same year brought major challenges. His microphone stopped working for nearly eight months, and without a steady income to replace it, he found himself borrowing equipment and recording at friends’ houses. This period was a struggle, but it taught him how to adapt to difficult circumstances. Creative blocks and disagreements with other artists also tested his resolve, but he remained focused.
What’s Next for BUTT3R?
BUTT3R’s recent EP, Mi Amor <3, has gained over 70,000 streams on Spotify, and his other singles are steadily climbing in popularity. He has big plans for the future, including a collaborative tape with NRL CJ and a full-length album titled Left With God, which he expects to release in the coming months.
In addition to his upcoming releases, BUTT3R continues to perform regularly, aiming to increase his live appearances to at least once a month. His next performance is scheduled for February 1st, where he’ll take the stage alongside Solist, Royce Bentley, and headliner NRL CJ.
Through determination and an evolving sound, BUTT3R is carving out a place for himself in the Iowa music scene, with much more to come.
